Bio
This is my School of Life journal, and it is "friends mostly" so ask to be added if you want to read entries that contain such content as original poems, etc. My main journal is [info]richips and it is "friends only" for safety reasons. if you are new to livejournal and have questions, check out the FAQ or feel free to ask me.

Tags are really useful for this journal- click here if you want to find a specific kind of entry- i.e. books read, lists of cafés, etc

People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading.
- Logan Pearsall Smith

Books to the ceiling,/ Books to the sky,/ My pile of books is a mile high./ How I love them! How I need them!/ I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.
- Arnold Lobel

"What we become depends on what we read after all of the professors have finished with us. The greatest university of all is a collection of books."
- Thomas Carlyle

"A writer is a person for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people."
- Thomas Mann

at first i needed a place to meld truth with fiction and thus i created this journal.
But now i wish to use it for something else.

I am a scholar in the school of life (aren't we all, really). In my time off from the conventional university, i would like to keep record of my attempts to nurture the discipline of my own education within myself. i would like to make note of books read, research done, lectures and talks attended, art witnessed, conversations developed, places discovered, dreams explored, and writings attempted [and if i'm lucky, finished].

some words of wisdom from Socrates:

* I decided that it was not wisdom that enabled poets to write their poetry, but a kind of instinct or inspiration, such as you find in seers and prophets who deliver all their sublime messages without knowing in the least what they mean.

*I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance.

*The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. [actually i think it has different wording but that's what you get with an internet search sometimes. when i reread The Apology, i shall re transcribe this.]
